North Dakota native Judy Baer turned a lifelong
dream of becoming a writer into a reality and
ministry when she began writing for teenage
audiences. She graduated from Concordia College
in Moorhead, Minnesota, in 1973, and received
considerable encouragement from her professors
to publish her writing, but didn't consider the
profession until after the birth of her second
child years later. In 1983, her first novel was
published, and she has followed this success
with more than forty books.
Judy Baer uses her writing talent to
provide a message of hope for today's teenagers.
Inspired by her two daughters as they grew into
adolescence, she recognizes the incredible
problems facing teens and the need for
understanding and encouragement. She places a
message for young people at the end of her books
that reads, "If you feel you have any of the
problems that Lexi and her friends experience,
I encourage you to talk with your parents, a
pastor, or a trusted adult friend. There are
many people who care about you!"
While balancing marriage and family with
her writing career, Judy Baer actively
participates in her community. She volunteers
in community activities and speaks in schools,
churches, at woman's groups, and at writer's
workshops across the country. Most working
days, however, find her working 9 to 5 in her
attic office or researching for her next book.
